Fostering intellectual knowledge of and cultural respect for the Native American and Indigenous experiences and communities

Native American Initiatives (NAI) at the University of Notre Dame works to co-sponsor events that promote Native ideas, communities, and thinking at the University of Notre Dame all the while supporting Native American students and their allies.

We acknowledge our presence on the traditional homelands of Native peoples including the Haudenosauneega, Miami, Peoria, and particularly the Pokégnek Bodéwadmik / Pokagon Potawatomi, who have been using this land for education for hundreds of years and continue to do so. We know land acknowledgments are always a work in progress; we last updated this on May 14, 2023.

The Circle of Stones is a monument of 14 stones that honor the 14 native American tribes who once inhabited the land in the region. (Photo by Matt Cashore/University of Notre Dame)
